After breakfast in your hotel/Riad, your private driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel/Riad in Fes at around 07:30 am before heading south with a nice drive across the fertile plain with its olive groves and orchards. Our first stop will be in the charming city of Ifrane, which is often called the pseudo-Switzerland version city of Morocco alluding the name to its European architecture.
Our 3 days desert tour from Fes will include another short break in the UNESCO preserved cedar forest of the Middle-Atlas. These lush forests host a colony of the Barbary Macaques that we possibly will meet. After lunch near Midelt, we will cross the spectacular Atlas Mountains passing by the Ziz Valley where you can nice shots before reaching the Sahara desert in the late afternoon.
Go on a camel ride adventure while enjoying the stunning view of the sunset before getting to our luxury desert camp where you will be served a nice meal for dinner followed by a session of music. Overnight in your private ensuite tent and relax for the next day’s adventure.
Early wake up in the morning, attend the impressive view of the sunrise atop the sand dune, then have a refreshing breakfast before getting ready for the adventure. We will spend the first half-day to explore the desert area starting with the local “Khettaras”, which is a sophisticated system of conveying water from far distances to irrigate the oasis by digging wells and interconnecting them with an underground channel.
Cross Merzouga village and get to Khamlai that is resided by Black Africans who were brought as slaves from Sub-Saharan Lands. They are known for the spiritual Gnawa Music they perform to visitors. Later, we will drive through the city of Erfoud, Ziz Gorge before spending our second night in Midelt city.
After breakfast, we will resume our 3 days desert tour from Fes by crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains before reaching the city of Meknes. This charming city is one of the 4 imperial cities of Morocco that was founded by the late Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century whose dream is to turn into the “Versailles Capital Morocco”. For some he succeeded and the buildings witness the glory of that era.
We will start our tour from the Royal Granaries and stables, then drive through the high walls of the Royal Palace before making a visit to the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Stretch your legs by the impressive Bab (Gate) Mansour and the vibrant el-Hedim Square.
Continue on the track further north to the Roman Ruins of Volubilis where you can have a guided walking tour offering an opportunity to learn about the Roman civilisation that settled in the north of Africa.
Later, we will head to Fes that we will reach in the evening marking the end of our adventurous 3 days desert tour from Fes.
