Ouirgane & Tinmel Mosque Day Trip from Marrakech

Pick up from your hotel/Riad in Marrakech at 09:00 am, then embark on a purely cultural Ouirgane & Tinmel Mosque day trip from Marrakech. You get to escape the bustling Medina of Marrakech by soaking up the nature and learning about the rich history of Morocco through a rewarding visit to the Tinmel Mosque that is located in the heart of the Atlas Mountains.

If the day trip coincides with Tuesday, we will include a visit to the traditional and weekly Souk (market) of Tahanaout, or if it takes place in Saturday, then the weekly market will be in the Asni centre. The Souk is a cultural and commercial hub as people from the mountains are accustomed to getting to the market every week to purchase the needed items and food such electronics, plastics, sugar, tea leaves…in return, they would put for sale organic vegetables, chicken, goats, sheep…and much more.

Cross the lush Ouirgane Village with its water reservoir alongside the mountain offering panoramic views, continue on the track to the Tinmel Mosque passing by the Ijoukak Village. The Mosque is one of the two mosque that are open to non-Muslims and is an example of the Almohad architecture that ruled Marrakech in the 12th and 13th centuries.

The Almohad founder Ibn Toumart, chose Tinmel as a base for fighting against the Almoravids before putting the premises of an empire that stretched in most of the northern Africa and Andalusia.

After visiting the mosque, we will drive back to Ouirgane where we will have lunch, then have a nice drive across the Kick Plateau offering majestic views before getting back to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
